Did I mention I was totally impressed by content aware image resizing? Sure I did. Right Here! It’s a big deal folks
The original paper by Ariel Shamir and Shai Avidan is available here [20.3MB]. If you prefer to read code instead, a nice AS3 implementation by Mario Klingemann is here along with the source code. Yes, I understand - human speak can be so bloated and unnecessary at times. But it’s still a very interesting paper. Definitely worth a read.
Also, a couple of days ago, I came across this, which is a plugin attempting to bring the power of this awesome technique to GIMP. I don’t personally use it, but I very much appreciate what it stands for. I’m sure this open source plugin will be very useful to many. Nice work guys!
Now what’s all this about a woodpecker then? Well, my impatient yet lovely readers, without further adieu, *drum roll*, enter the Woodpecker! Perhaps my second most favourite woodpecker to be even (sorry, I don’t think any woodpecker could ever knock Woody off #1 spot). It turns out that this rather elegant looking utility would also be available as a standalone desktop application using Adobe AIR. And why not I say! AS3 implementations sure do bring some amazing benefits for all their (increasingly irrelevant) shortcomings.
I’m excitedly looking forward to giving this a test run. Interesting times we live in.
